In the anaerobic digestion (AD) process, the preliminary tank (or primary mixing/pre-treatment tank) is the most volatile environment. It is here that organic waste—ranging from food scraps to animal manure—is homogenized, heated, and prepared for digestion. This stage involves high concentrations of volatile organic acids (VOAs) and significant mechanical scouring. Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks are the globally recognized gold standard for this application, offering a 30+year service life where concrete and epoxy-welded tanks often fail.
At Center Enamel, our GFS panels are created by fusing high-performance glass frit to titanium-rich steel at 820°C–930°C. This creates a molecular interfacial bond that is uniquely suited for the "acid phase" of biogas production.

Modern industrial biogas plants require massive pre-treatment volumes to ensure consistent feedstock flow. Center Enamel supports individual tank builds up to 60,000 m3, allowing operators to:
Biogas plants are methane-rich, high-risk environments.
Preliminary tanks often require heating to 35°C–40°C to kickstart the biological process. Our GFS tanks are engineered for seamless integration with:
Our capability in municipal and industrial waste-to-energy is proven by the Beijing Daxing Stability Circular Economy Park.
Why do concrete preliminary tanks fail?
The early "acid phase" of anaerobic digestion produces volatile fatty acids that penetrate the pores of concrete, weakening the rebar. GFS is an inorganic, non-porous glass barrier that is entirely immune to acid penetration.
Can GFS tanks handle the vibration of heavy mixers?
Yes. Through advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Center Enamel engineers the structural thickness and bolt patterns to specifically manage the dynamic loads and vibrations of high-torque agitators used in sludge homogenization.
What is the maximum capacity for a preliminary tank?
Center Enamel can engineer individual GFS bolted tanks reaching volumes of 60,000 m3+, providing the largest and most reliable storage solution in the biogas industry.
With over 30 years of experience and nearly 200 patents, Center Enamel is Asia's leader in bolted tank technology. Our GFS biogas preliminary tanks are operational in over 100 countries, helping the renewable energy sector achieve higher gas yields through durable and record-breaking engineering.
Optimize your biogas feedstock strategy with a 60,000 m3+ GFS solution.
